Make: Blogger’s Quilt Festival!

MyHeart4Him-emperiment-quilt-ink-dyed-crayon

This quilt started out as an experiment.  But, each step turned out so nice, I kept going.  I am so glad I did.  I think it turned out lovely.

The background is “water colored” with rubber stamp ink mixed with Aloe Vera Gel.  Once the back ground was dry, I ironed it, then washed out the gel.   Then, I added highlights and shadows with Crayola crayons.  I ironed it again to set the colors.

I free motioned on top to add texture.  I’ve only free motioned a few times and I still haven’t gotten the hang of it.  It is much harder than it looks!  But, practice makes perfect.  All that was left was the bind and add embellishments.  The crochet pansies is from an old doily.  I am especially fond of the iron on jewels.  I hope you enjoy my entry into the Blogger’s Quilt Festival.

  7. Thanks for the comment on my blog, your story about odd shoes made me laugh!

Someone said wearing odd shoes is a mark of creativity – that’s clearly the case for you – love your picture quilt, it’s really imaginative and the free motion quilting looks great!

The photos of your quilt are very nice, but it does not do it justice. In real life it is drop dead gorgeous. It is one of the prettiest quilt I have ever seen. I wish I just had half your talent.

  10. Shannon, you were so sweet to check out my I Heart Faces Friendship challenge today and left a nice note so of course I just had to check out your blog and see who you were. Well, as much as I love the boys in the water, I just have to say I loved your blog in general. I loved the premium theme, and oh my, this quilt — seriously!!! My mom is a quilter and so I know beautiful quilts and this is a beautiful quilt!!! I’ll be checking in on you so keep up the amazing all-around talent that you seem to embody. :-) Mary
